So tell me how I did.  This is my first animated icon I've made.  Is it ok??  Any suggestions for making it better?  I used Windows Movie Maker, but am open to trying other stuff...

Did the meme the day it was posted at Doom's LJ, but didn't get around to remembering to do it until now.   Also - sorry about the abnormally large LJ cut text - I'm not sure why it is being that way, but I am too tired to figure it out.

Here are the rules:

So you always wanted to be a rock star, huh?
(yoinked from otesmacke , among others)
1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you'll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days" http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your debut album.

This is pretty true, I think. I was the kid who always wanted to answer in class. *sad sigh* I've had to work hard in my life to suppress my urge to talk all the time. I truly believe it's genetic. Oh - and if nothing else, this test made me laugh out loud. (Sorry if I woke you, Nailz!! *bows*)

Ah~  Back at home.  Got back in tonight about 5:30pm.  Am happy to be finally done driving all over South Dakota.  I feel like I know SD so much better now.  I visited Springfield, Vermillion, Sioux Falls, Mobridge, Aberdeen, and Milltown.  Good times overall.  While I was driving from Aberdeen to Milltown on US Hwy 281, I got this crazy idea to ride my bicycle across South Dakota at the end of next August.  Who's coming with me??  *looks pointedly at [info]affreca

South Dakota really is a beautiful state and it was hard not to stop every so many miles to take pictures.  I think there is something about the land you were raised on that will touch your heart more than any other.  I did take a lot pictures though, so will post a few of those later this week.  I need to send one last roll in for development and scan the other 4 rolls that I already got developed.

Will start catching up on the FL posts tomorrow whilst drinking massive quantities of coffee - so if I leave comments that don't exactly make sense, please forgive me!  *laughs*

Never in my life have I ever been woken up by someone throwing cold water on my face.  In my youth, my dad may have threatened it many a time and my mother threatened to have my dad do it - but today.  *grits teeth*  Today (at 5:01am to be exact), my CAT decides to wake me up for his morning feeding.

I have become pretty intuitive about when he's going to wake me up, because I usually open my eyes moments before his paw touches my face.  This morning when I opened my eyes, the paw was not reaching for my face (no, no - it couldn't be that easy and nice).  It was, in fact, reaching for the glass of water on my "bed stand"  (I call it that because it is a long story to explain why my bed stand is taller than my bed).  Next thing I know, the whole glassful is spilling onto my face and splashing all over my pillow and bed!

And you know what the worst part was?  Silly me, I simply get up, go out to the kitchen and feed him and then try to sop some of the water off the bed.  I did not (though I really regret not doing it) grab him and pour the remaining water on his face.  I did not even tell him "no", or use any colorful expressions.

The one thing about cats (that I forget occasionally) is that they don't get trained, they train you.  SO - today I will be buying a sippie cup.  This sippie cup will now be my bedtime water glass.  I get away with not wanting to strangle my cat by finding ways to make it so he can't piss me off.

On a completely unrelated side note - will be off for traveling for the next 2 1/2 weeks.  Last night I only got 4.5 hours of sleep and I will be driving more hours today than I slept last night.  *is super tired and sad*  Thank goodness for roadside napping!

Hope all have a really good next couple of weeks and I will be commenting like a mad woman to catch up when I get back.  :3

Here are a couple pictures I took of Master Murphy this afternoon.  He loves napping near me while I'm on the computer.  These were taken on the sly because every time a camera is turned on him, he always seems to wake up.  :)

I need your advice.  I went through a box this morning of old magazines.  (Someone please help me, I'm such a packrat!!)  I remember going through this specific box a couple of years ago and I got it down to a much smaller (and lighter) amount of stuff that I kept.  What remains of the box is a couple of newspapers about the 2000 election (Gore v. Bush) and the Sept. 11th attacks.  I also have the special TIME magazine edition on the 9/11 attack.  Then I have a couple of old issues of Rolling Stone (one with Al Gore on the cover), and a LOT of magazines with Harry Potter as the cover story.

What should I do with all of those?  Recycle them??  Try to give them to Goodwill so another packrat can have them considering their historical value (blah blah blah)?

Also - found a bunch of letters from ex-boyfriends.  Don't know what to do with those.  Haven't re-read them (because I already know what they say) and am thinking about getting rid of those as well.

I'm pleading with you guys - tips, motivation, encouragement - anything??

Summoning advice from the good ol' FL...

Fighting the nostalgic pack rat in me is tough today.

I am spring cleaning in my room.  I keep finding all these things that I could never bring myself to get rid of, but I don't really want/need either.  I am completely baffled as to what I should do.  For instance, today I found a bunch of posters in my closet.  They are in decent shape, but I've kind of gone past the whole movie posters stage.  Some of them could actually be collectors items (like the Harry Potter movie posters), so I don't want to just trash them, but I'm not going to hang them up either.  I've come to terms with the fact that I most likely won't ever use them.  Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do with them?

As I go through my room, I may post here for more advice on the things I discover lurking.  Help?

So I re-did the SuperHero blog quiz with slightly different answers because (shame on me) I forgot that Nailz and I are a Duo-cracy and our SuperHero Duo name is Team Rocket. Also, for some reason, it would not get past putting the same user in twice.  I refreshed and refreshed, but alas it would not change its results.  *sigh*  New results behind the cut:

How to stop a wankfest.

 *shock-u*

Another post.  Two in one day??  What could I possibly be thinking?  Well, I could just be avoiding other stuff I should be doing.  Been going back and back on my friends page and came across this:

http://community.livejournal.com/twin_cities/2124089.html?thread=19947065&style=mine#t19947065

Interesting part of a wankfest that I found very refreshing.  There should be rational people like this in more communities!  XD

Bird Help

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 6:06 PM

Lately, we have had a number of warblers fly into our office building and get stuck there.  It seems like every other day there is at least one stuck inside.  Most of my co-workers don't see any problem in just swatting them with a broom while they are flying (usually killing them or injuring them beyond recovery) and then chucking the bird's body outside.

As a bird lover, my voice is not heard while saying that it would be best just to stun the bird if they are set on hitting it, so that it can be released outside.

Does anyone know of a way to capture a bird stuck inside without injuring it?  Or someway to help them find their way out by themselves?  We don't have any windows and the ceilings are high and leaving the door open just seems to invite more to come in.

Any help at all would be much appreciated!

A question to HP slash fandom friends...

  • May. 12th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
:O - Toma
SO....This is a pretty short query and I hope that you guys will respond, so I'm not putting this behind a cut.

Back in the day (say around 1999 or so) when I joined Harry Potter slash fandom, there was not very much MPREG (male pregnancy) to be found.  At first, I laughed at the thought that someone would seriously write a fanfic about Draco being pregnant with Harry's baby, or vice versa.  Now, as a member of a slash H/D community on LJ, I've noticed a rash of mpreg fanfics and people actually seeking out mpreg fics.

I am confounded.  I don't even know where to begin examining why MPREG would be something that would seem to be popular.

What do you guys think?  Why is there a surge of mpreg in the last couple of years and do you think there are a lot of fans, or do you think they just happen to have congregated in this LJ community?  Also - shouldn't mpreg have its own community?  Or is mpreg just a natural fictional progression from slash fiction pairings?

As a last note - I know that some wank may come my way for posting this, but I really doubt many people actually read my entries.  :/  And I am honestly curious as to the appeal of mpreg.  If you're a fan - convince me.  If you're not a fan - tell me what you can rationalize from it.

Well, here is the last of our Japan Travelogue.  There really isn't much of a conclusion - it just sort of ends.  Oops.  We hope you have enjoyed the pictures and narrative.  Let us know if you have any questions or comments!

There are only 10 pictures in this post.  Enjoy!
